THE NSW Police Public Order and Riot Squad was called in after a 18th birthday party got out of control at Cook Parade Neighbourhood Centre in St Clair on Saturday night.
Investigations are continuing into the incident in which a large number of uninvited guests gate-crashed the party.
Police were called to the hall at 11.20pm after reports that brawls between party-goers had spilled onto the street.
St Marys officers were confronted by a large group of people in the street and car park. Bottles and other objects were thrown at police.
Officers were forced to call for back-up from neighbouring commands, the Public Order and Riot and Dog squads, which helped break up the party and disperse the crowd.
Paramedics treated two people at the scene for minor injuries cuts and abrasions.
Several arrests were made and investigations are continuing.
There are calls from the community for Penrith Council to be more vigilant about hall hire.
Cook Parade Neighbourhood Centre can be hired up until 1am on Friday and Saturday nights and 10am other nights.
It is the same venue where a man was stabbed to death at a 21st birthday in June last year.
