Buses bring the creek closer

30 Jun, 2009 10:46 AM
PUBLIC transport accessibility to Eastern Creek has been improved after the first of the state's new buses were rolled out in Mount Druitt yesterday.

It was part of the State Government's promise to invest in 300 new buses across the state, resulting in 400 new jobs for bus drivers and 150 in bus building.

Workers who commute to Eastern Park are the big winners, with an improved and increased 738 service from Mount Druitt station to Old Wallgrove Road and Wonderland Drive.

The Busways service now travels via Rooty Hill station and was extended to serve the next stage of Eastern Creek Business Park along Old Wallgrove and Roberts roads.

The service runs every 30 minutes between 4.30am and 8.30am and 2.30pm and 5.30pm.

A Busways spokeswoman said increased frequency in the peak periods was implemented after investigations into suitable service hours for local work patterns were conducted.

``The service structure is designed to accommodate the commencement and completion of varying shifts on weekdays,'' the spokeswoman said.

Busways has also implemented a new T74 service, which will run weekdays between The Ponds with Blacktown station via Stanhope Parkway and the T-way. It will run every 30 minutes during peak periods and hourly at off-peak times. The 739 service will run to a revised route via Fuller Street instead of Frank Street to remove a right turn which caused safety issues, as reported in the Star on May26.

But no extra bus zones will be created in Fuller Street after Blacktown councillors rejected the proposal.

To maintain accessibility in Frank Street, route 739V has been extended to cover the area with one extra trip being added.
