A FATHER, his three brothers and a friend walked 65 kilometres to help raise money to find a cure for his daughter who has cystic fibrosis (CF).
Blacktown resident Pat Borg was supported by brothers, Damian, of Winston Hills, Tim of Prospect, Joe of Silverdale and friend Ryan Sullivan of St Marys, who are all inspired by Mr Borg's two-year-old daughter Isabella.
They joined 200 people in the Cystic Fibrosis NSW 65K 4 65 Roses Walkathon at Leichhardt Park, Rozelle on Saturday.
They raised money for CF NSW to fund research into the genetic lung condition that has no cure and reduces the life span of its victims.
Mr Borg said he, his brothers and Ryan Sullivan were inspired by Isabella to do this for the third year.
They raised about $6000 last year.
He said Isabella was doing well at the moment and enjoyed taking care of her new brother Oliver.
``She was very thrilled to meet one of her favourite characters, Dorothy the Dinosaur from The Wiggles at the event,'' he said.
``You can't tell by looking at her that Isabella has cystic fibrosis. She just [has] a virus here and there, nothing too serious at this stage but takes about 16 types of medicine a day and has to see her doctor every two months.
Organisers hope to have raised $200,000 for CF NSW this year.
The event raised $108,000 last year.
The family event was aimed at raising public awareness of the disease and funds for medical research and counselling for people with CF and their families.
