Family gets dream home

17 Nov, 2009 10:07 AM
BLACKTOWN resident Rhiannon Hart will soon have a stable home for her toddler Emily and eldest child Alexander, thanks to the Habitat for Humanity organisation.

The Harts are one of two families whose lives will change forever thanks to the organisation, which offers interest-free loans to low-income families.

Their home's foundations will be laid when the Bidwill Blitz Build begins this week.

The Hart and Webeck families will have a hands-on role in the building of their simple, affordable homes over the next 12 days.

They will be involved in everything from erecting the house frames and inserting windows, to painting walls and laying turf.

Tradesmen will volunteer materials and their time for the project and will be joined by staff from project sponsor QBE LMI.

Ms Hart, a single mother, was constantly on the move before her Habitat for Humanity application was accepted two years ago.

Emily was aged 3 months at the time and was weeks away from major heart surgery.

``I didn't have a stable place to live until just before Emily was born,'' she said. ``We're looking forward to seeing the house going up and being able to finally move in.''

She said she never imagined she would own her own home.
