PLUMPTON film-maker Saad Adam says his debut documentary will change how outsiders perceive Mt Druitt.
He has put the final touches to The Lives of Mount Druitt Youth for which he spent 12 months interviewing young people from the area.
Out of 28 people interviewed, 22 have starring roles in the 90-minute documentary.
Mr Adam, 23, will hold a private screening in Mt Druitt and enter his documentary in film festivals.
``There's about 5000 film festivals that I can enter,'' he said.
``The film is looking good.
``It's very experimental and different to many other documentaries out there.
``I wanted to take a different approach to how Mt Druitt is portrayed.
``It's not just about the bad things that happen in Mt Druitt, it's about the good things too.''
Mr Adam produced and directed the documentary with little help from others.
He walked, or relied on friends to drive him to locations, and spent thousands repairing equipment.
Mr Adam captured almost three hours of footage for the documentary.
``The final result would have been better if I'd had a bigger budget,'' he said.
``I had a zero budget and it was originally planned to be a 30-minute film.''
Mr Adam has no intention of being a one-hit wonder and already has his own production company, Question Mark Films.
``My next film will be about youth from different cultural groups across Sydney,'' he said.
