FOND memories come flooding back whenever Saad Adam reminisces over old photos of family trips to Wonderland Sydney.
The Plumpton filmmaker has echoed community calls for the return of a theme park or similar entertainments to western Sydney.
Eastern Creek was home to Wonderland Sydney, which had been the biggest theme park in the southern hemisphere until it closed down in 2004 after 19 years of operation.
An online petition was recently set up, calling on the State Government to build a theme park in western Sydney (www.gopetition.com.au/petitions/ a-new-theme-park-in-western-sydne y.html).
Mr Saad, 23, is finalising production on his documentary The Lives Of Mount Druitt Youth in which the people interviewed raise concerns about the lack of activities in the area.
He said Wonderland kept him out of trouble when he was growing up and that a place was needed to attract people to the west and to create jobs and bring back excitement..
Chifley MP Roger Price and the Mayor of Blacktown, Charlie Lowles, say they have no objections to the creation of a theme park.
``I was saddened to see Wonderland close,'' Mr Price said.
``It provided part-time jobs for young people and gave them a start in employment.
``It would be a great idea to push if the State Government and council want to work together.''
Mr Lowles said a theme park would be a boost for western Sydney's 2.8 million population, but said there were already plenty of low-cost family activities in Mt Druitt.
