Following in winning dance steps

THE breakdancing craze continues to bust a move in Mount Druitt, thanks to the Napalan brothers.

Lowe, 18, auditioned with Don, 25, for this year's Channel 10 series of So You Think You can Dance.

The brothers made the top 100 but that's where the journey ended for Lowe. He was eliminated on the second day of workshops in his first year of auditioning.

It took his brother three attempts before he became part of the top 20 on the show when it aired last Thursday night.

Judges couldn't knock back Don after he wowed them and fellow contestants with a cheeky solo routine to Gloria Gaynor's hit I Will Survive.

The breakdancer took jazz and contemporary classes to improve his chances this year.

This will be the second consecutive year in which the Mount Druitt area will be represented in the top 20.

Don follows in the footsteps of 2009 ballroom dancing contestant Damien Samuel.

Lowe is determined to audition again next year.

``It was an interesting challenge,'' he said.

He has been breakdancing for 10 years but joined Dance Junction studio last year for jazz and contemporary classes in preparation for his HSC dance studies at St Marys Senior High School.

Lowe hopes to find a job but will continue training and teaching at the Glendenning studio.

``Lowe being in the top 100 has boosted our numbers of males,'' said teacher Jessica Labrador.

``We had a class last Wednesday where there eight girls and six men, which was rare. He's attracted a group of dancers with a different mentality to the studio.''
