YOU'RE never too old to have a good time. Just ask the members of the Blacktown Older Women's Network.
They recently kicked up their heels at the group's first event for the year, at Rooty Hill Senior Citizens Hall.
The group enjoyed a zero-themed party to kick-start 2010 and celebrate members whose age will end in zero at their birthdays this year.
Members brought plates of food to share and spent the day catching up and playing games.
``We have nine members who turn 60, 70, or 80 this year,'' said spokeswoman Helen Sweeney.
``There's a member who turns 90 but she couldn't come because of shingles.
``Everyone had a great time. There was a beautiful harmony in the room.''
The groups meets at the hall each Wednesday at 10am.
Preparations for its Seniors Week lunch in March are in full swing. They secured a $400 State Government grant to subsidise costs.
It will coincide with celebrations of International Women's Day, also in March.
The group's goal for 2010 is to expand its cancer support group, which meets on the first and third Fridays of each month.
Other activities include drumming, flower arranging and tai-chi.
The women have planned a trip for next year for which they will head to Darwin, take the Ghan train to Adelaide and fly home.
``The group continues to grow we're getting new members each week,'' Mrs Sweeney said.
``It's such a beautiful fraternity. This is my third year with the group and I've never met such a fun-loving group of ladies.''
