A THREE-level car park at St Marys should be finished by Christmas.
The final concrete pour for the car park is scheduled this week before the building of the top deck and fit-out of the three levels begins.
As reported in the Star in March, when the first sod was turned, the development will provide 500 car spaces on the northern side of the railway line.
It means an extra 300 car spaces in Harris Street and includes additional disabled parking.
The $12.9 million development includes 500 square metres of retail space, an undercover path between the car park and the station, CCTV cameras, lift, bus interchange and kiss-and-ride drop-off point.
The retail precinct is the final stage to be built and is scheduled to be completed early next year.
It's one of 11 commuter car parks being built in western Sydney by the state government.
Londonderry state MP Allan Shearan said: ``It will encourage more people to use public transport, keeping in mind the increasing population in the area, particularly in the Ropes Crossing development.''
Mr Shearan hopes Mt Druitt will be next on the list for extra commuter car parking. He parks at Mt Druitt when he uses public transport and says the parking situation there is ``terrible''.
He and Mt Druitt MP Richard Amery have campaigned for years for more commuter parking, which Premier Kristina Kenneally promised in the 2010-11 state budget.
``There was a commitment in the budget to build a commuter car park at Mt Druitt, so hopefully that will happen in the not too distant future,'' Mr Shearan said. ``It's one of the busiest stations on the CityRail network. There are commuters who park quite some distance away from the station.''
