THE Penrith Panthers had a refreshing change from preseason training when they toured the upgraded factory of one of their longest-serving sponsors, Coca-Cola Amatil, last week.
The team were provided with a buffet lunch and given a guided tour of the production line and high-bay area before taking photos and signing autographs with staff and fans.
Penrith Panthers captain Petero Civoniceva said the team was in excellent shape for the 2010 season.
``We have a fully fit squad and everyone is excited about the weeks ahead,'' he said. ``We had some good form last year but we fell away towards the back end of the season so we just have to work on consistency.
``This year we're very strong right across the board, so there's a tremendous amount of competition to fight for spots on the field.''
He said the return of the squad's senior players from last year's Four-Nations Cup had added depth and quality to the squad.
Star playmaker Michael Jennings agreed. He's representing the NRL All-Stars in this Saturday's Harvey Norman All-Stars' clash.
``The boys have brought a lot of confidence back into the team and the new guys have also been excellent,'' he said.
Among those new players is former Manly Sea-Eagles and North-Queensland Cowboys five-eighth Travis Burns, who said he had made an easy transition into the Panthers side.
``The boys are a close-knit group of blokes so it's been good and I'm enjoying it,'' he said.
He was confident the Panthers would finally see an end to their finals drought.
``We'll definitely be playing finals footy this year,'' he said. ``I haven't played in the finals since Manly but we're a big chance of being right up there this season.''
Coca-Cola Amatil's sports marketing NSW manager Hartley Anderson said the day was about extending a partnership the two organisations have had for a long time.
``The biggest message comes through the fact we're about people and how people work as a team to get high-quality results,'' he said.
``We have been discussing this tour for a long time and as Panthers is the largest licensed club in NSW we wanted to make their players the first to see our new facility. We have a culture of brands built around entertainment, fun and enjoyment and we wanted to convey that to the players through the experience of coming here.''
Civoniceva said the Panthers had a great relationship with the company and it was interesting to get an insight into their operations.
ThePanthers face their first test of the season when they take on the Parramatta Eels in the Battle of the West trial game at Penrith's CUA Stadium on Saturday, February20, before officially launching their 2010 premiership campaign with a Round 1 match at home against the Canberra Raiders which is happening on Saturday, March13.
