FOLLOWING last year's success, Camden's Tori Darke is looking to go to the next level.
The young singer started this year with finalist berths in the annual Toyota Star Maker and Telstra Road to Tamworth competitions.
She missed out on the top prizes, however, she did return with a Gold Medallion Award as NSW New Talent of the Year, selected by the World Alliance for Radio Presenters.
While she has sights set on recording a full-length debut release, Tori is currently gearing to be part of a line-up of stars donating time for the cancer fund-raiser Concert For A Cure.
The event will be held on Saturday, March 20 at the Blacktown Olympic Park Athletics Precinct, Eastern Road, Rooty Hill.
Running from noon to 8pm, it will also feature sets by Beccy Cole, Victoria Baillie, Dianna Corcoran, Luke O'Shea, Dear Orphans, Gemma Luxton, Chris E Thomas, Aleyce Simmonds, Racz `N Waters and The Rough Diamonds.
The event is the brainchild of three Blacktown City residents who have each been touched by cancer.
Star editor Matt Lawrence is one of those organisers. In 2008 he lost his wife to ovarian cancer.
``There is no greater pain than that from watching the one you love slowly being consumed by this insidious disease,'' he said.
``It feels as though your heart is being ripped from your chest on a daily basis.
``My wife battled the disease for four years before being claimed.
``Throughout, her courage was truly inspiring.''
Last year Mr Lawrence hosted a smaller scale fund-raiser, of which Tori was also involved.
Westmead Medical Research Foundation has been chosen to benefit from the event.
The foundation serves as a funds provider for the Westmead Millennium Institute and Westmead Hospital. The institute is focused on research into cancers and other life-threatening illnesses.
Tickets for Concert For A Cure are available through Blacktown Council (98396000) and Blacktown Workers Club (98300600) and will also be available from the gate on the day.
