Mt Druitt artist Danny Eastwood won the 2008 Parliament of New South Wales Indigenous Art Prize Award last week.

His winning work titled “My Reconciliation” reflects Mr Eastwood’s vision of a diverse urban community living in harmony, based on personal reminiscing about his childhood.

The competition was judged by Professor Larissa Behrendt, Vic Chapman and Djon Mundine.

The judges said that Mr Eastwood's artwork was ''a confident expression of modern Aboriginality'' that celebratesd the way in which Aboriginal communities survived and thrived in the inner city.

They described the artwork as witty and humorous , which explores an era and situation that is not often explored in contemporary Aboriginal art.

Mr Eastwood has a long and distinguished history of working with Blacktown City Council in the development and promotion of local aboriginal culture.

He has been a long standing member of the Arts Reference Group and the Program Advisory Committee of Blacktown Arts Centre.
