Baseballers batter up for the grand final

16 Mar, 2010 11:54 AM
The last week of the 2009/10 Greater Western Junior Baseball season will feature two Rooty Hill teams as the Under 12s and Under 9s won through to their respective grand finals.

In a rematch of both major semis, the Under 12s will take on Colyton St Clair Blackhawks at Samuel Marsden Reserve, while the Under 9s will confront Penrith Panthers at Peter van Hasselt Reserve.

The Under 12s staged a come-from-behind victory against Kemps Creek Gold at Samuel Marsden, falling behind 1-3 early before coming home to win 10-5. A seven-run second inning was the turning point for the team and gives them good form to take on the minor premiers, who narrowly beat them in their last match up.

After two consecutive losses, the Under 9s fell behind early against a committed Colyton St Clair Navajo side. A big third innings swung the game back toward the Blues before the Navajo turned the tables again in the 4th innings to draw level. A tense and terse fifth inning split the difference with the Blues prevailing 14-11.

The club wishes both sides the very best in their quest for a premiership.

This Saturday's grand final draw is as follows:

Under 8: Plumpton vs Penrith, 9.30am, Alroy Park, Plumpton

Under 9: Penrith Panthers vs Rooty Hill, 9.30am, Pieter Van Hasselt Reserve, Willmot
