The Springwood Scorchers and Penrith Panthers senior men's teams both recorded wins on the weekend in round seven of the 2010 NSW State League Basketball competition, whilst the Hawkesbury Jets fell to the Macarthur Heat.

The Scorchers hosted the Bathurst Goldminers on Saturday night at the Blaxland High School Basketball Stadium and were in total control throughout the game, leading at every break on their way to an 82-67 win.

The Panthers were on the road to Sutherland on Sunday afternoon and had a similar result, defeating the Sharks 78-61, whilst the Jets were on the road to the Minto Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday night, losing 67-54 to the Macarthur Heat.

The victories by the Scorchers and Panthers sets up this Saturday afternoon's State League "Game of the Week" between those two teams.

This much-anticipated clash will be played at 4pm on Saturday afternoon at the Penrith Valley Regional Sports Centre, Cambridge Park, with the Panthers Youth League men hosting the Blacktown Storm in the preliminary game at 2pm.

It will be the first encounter this season between the Scorchers and Panthers, in the battle for this year's PhotoExcellence Cup, with both sides hoping to wrest the silverware from the grasp of the Hawkesbury Jets for the first time in two seasons.

Scorchers head coach Leon Hine has guided his team to three consecutive victories.

"We get a real chance to see just where we are at (in terms of the season) next weekend when we play Penrith,'' Hine said.

"I've been very happy with our progress to date, we've kept level-headed under trying conditions and we're playing with confidence. We only gave up two offensive rebounds against Bathurst on Saturday night and our defence has been our strength.''

Panthers head coach Jeff Cooper was also keen to highlight his team's defensive capabilities.

"Defensively, we were very good against the Sharks,'' Cooper said.

"We threw a zone at them early and they (Sharks) couldn't handle it but we can't underestimate the Scorchers this Saturday.''
