Bright talent shines through

02 Mar, 2010 08:56 AM
BRIGHT by name and bright by nature, his strokeplay lit up Joe McAleer Reserve on Saturday.

Blacktown's Malcolm Bright stroked 105 runs against Sydney on the first day of their first-grade cricket clash.

It's been a luminous season for Bright.

The century took him to fifth in the first-grade aggregates, with 621 runs at the impressive average of 62.10.

Some form of representative recognition could await next summer if Bright continues to shine.

Veteran captain Paul Maraziotis has had plenty of recognition for the statistical milestones he's passed.

Maraziotis is one below Bright on the grade tables with 616 runs.

The dependable skipper added 30 to the scoreboard after winning the toss on Saturday.

Alas, Blacktown squandered these weighty contributions, falling from a solid platform of 3-157 to be dismissed for a still-competitive 226.

Sydney were 1-46 at stumps with the reliable Kish Nadesan again making the early breakthrough.

The match is Blacktown's second-last chance for glory before the finals which won't include them.

Meanwhile, Blacktown seconds made 160 and Sydney are 8-117 in reply.

Sydney were 9-182 at stumps in thirds and Blacktown made 127 in fourths, with Sydney 2-51 in reply.

Workers fifths scored 125, Sydney were 2-57 at stumps and in sixths, Randwick-Petersham were 7-140 when rain halted play.
