Penrith cricketers have victory in sight

This Saturday is you last chance to see Penrith first grade in action this season at Howell Oval.

They recovered from a disastrous start and are 97 runs away from victory in their Sydney grade cricket match against Sutherland in their last home match of the season.

The hosts are 3-105 in reply the visitors' score of 201.

Club captain Luke Morrissey (42) and Dave Taylor (38) will return to the crease after they resurrected the innings when Penrith were 3-44.

Earlier on, Matthew Halse grabbed three wickets while Josh Lalor, Ryan Smith and Pat Jackson bagged two scalps each.

Second grade's finals aspirations are slipping away after they were bowled out for 160 at Glenn McGrath Oval.

Tim Cummins top-scored with 43 not out.

Sutherland are 4-130 in reply with Patrick Cummins grabbing three wickets.

Wayne Stewart scored a half century in third grade's score of 166 at Cook Park.

The visitors were 2-32 at stumps.

Fourth grade are 1-27 in reply to Sutherland's 262 at Sutherland Oval.

Paul Williams (3-32) and Jacob Apicella (2-34) were the pick of the bowlers.

Captain Jason Betros (78) and James Pinter (58) steered fifth grade to a competitive total of 267 at Rance Oval.

Play gets underway at 10.30am for first and seconds, 12.30pm for lower grades.

The club's young guns including first graders Jordan Silk, Jarryd Blake and Max McNamarra will back up on Sunday in Penrith's undefeated under-21s Poidevin Gray Shield semi final against Sydney Uni at Howell Oval from 10am.

The winner books a spot in the final against St George or Parramatta on March 14.
