Women to battle Kiwis

15 Dec, 2009 09:14 AM
THE rising stars of Australian women's cricket hope to shine when the first international match is played at Blacktown Olympic Park tomorrow.

The Australian Shooting Stars under-21 women's squad have arrived in town to take on the New Zealand Emerging Players squad in a series of Twenty20 and 50 over matches at the new cricket facility in Rooty Hill.

Trans-Tasman rivalry gets underway tomorrow with a Twenty20 match from 2.15pm.

The fun continues on Thursday afternoon and on Friday, where it will be first cricket match to be played under lights at the venue from 7.15pm.

Fifty over matches will be played on Sunday (10am) and next Tuesday (3pm).

The Shooting Stars will be looking to impress selectors in the lead-up to the ICC World Twenty20 campaign in the West Indies in April.

NSW players in action include captain Erin Osborne, Sarah Coyte, Ellyse Perry, Angela Reakes and Alyssa Healy, who is the niece of former Australian wicketkeeping legend Ian Healy.

Admission to all matches is free.

First-class cricket action continues on to heat up on Australia Day (January 26), where both ovals will be in action for the semi-finals and final of the Sydney grade cricket Twenty20 competition and a under-16 state AW Green Shield match.

A big summer of cricket ends at the venue on January 30 with the women's national cricket league grand final.
