Panthers wear pink for Manly face-off

02 Jun, 2009 10:54 AM
FORGET stereotypes, real men can wear pink. Take it from Penrith Panthers players, who will wear pink jerseys against Manly in their round-14 clash on June 13.

CUA Stadium will be a sea of pink as the club raises funds and awareness for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Nepean Hospital cancer unit and the Panthers Women in League.

As well as jerseys, Panthers players will wear pink shorts and socks, which will be signed and auctioned online to raise funds.

Pink footballs will also be used on the night, while fullback Jarrod Sammut will take things a step further by wearing hot pink boots.

The current bid for his boots stands at $200 each.

Western Sydney Rugby League Academy's Pink Day at Whalan Reserve has been rescheduled for June13 after it was washed out on the last two weekends.

Meanwhile, the Panthers missed their Origin stars when they were beaten by StGeorge Dragons 38-10 in Wollongong on Friday night. The Dragons led 12-6 at the break and piled on 26 second-half points to lead the NRL table.

Panthers coach Matt Elliott said his players lacked physicality and presence. ``The players got a good lesson in what they need to do when their best players are out,'' he said.

The Panthers have their Origin stars back for this Friday night's match at Leichhardt Oval, where they hope to take Wests Tigers' losing streak to five.
