Winter Super League
Rain washed out Mount Druitt Town Rangers' Winter Super League clash against the Northern Tigers at Popondetta Park on Sunday. The Rangers hope to cause a huge upset against competition frontrunners PCYC Parramatta at Melita Stadium this Sunday at 3pm. Under-20s kick off at 5.30pm. In the NSW Premier League, Penrith Nepean United's match against Marconi was also postponed. Blacktown City Demons have moved into the top five with a 3-0 upset win against Sydney United. Adam Kwasnik put the Demons in front before a double from Matthew Lewis put the result beyond doubt. The Demons tackle Sutherland at Gabbie Stadium this Sunday while Penrith Nepean United host West Sydney Berries at CUA Stadium on Saturday night.
Emus lift off finally
There were wild celebrations at Nepean Rugby Park on Saturday after the Penrith Emus first grade rugby union side won their first match of the season. The Emus were too good for Northern Suburbs with 14-6 in round nine of the Shute Shield. Penrith scored two converted tries and kept the visitors tryless. The Emus remain at the bottom of the table but have a chance to overtake Parramatta with a win against seventh-placed Randwick at Coogee Oval on Saturday.
