One lucky resident on the NSW South Coast has recorded incredible footage of a rare waterspout which cropped up during wild weather over the weekend.
The spout, spotted off Bateman's Bay, was just one of the remarkable events triggered by wild weather, with a remarkable 24,000 lightning strikes recorded in NSW.
The Bureau of Meteorology said the state's highest rainfall was recorded at Coffs Harbour, with 160mm in the 24 hours to 9am Saturday.
Wind gusts of up to 100km/h were also recorded in the state's north.
The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) was kept busy, with 150 call-outs at the weekend, most from the northern township of Woodburn.
Most of the strikes occurred on Saturday in northern NSW, which was hit by a large storm cell, a spokesman from Weatherzone said.
At least four houses will have to be demolished in Woodburn after a devastating storm hit at about 7pm on Saturday.
The town, located south of Ballina and with a population of about 350, was lashed with 100km/h winds and 75mm of rain in 25 minutes.
SES local controller Jim McCormack said it was a "miracle" no one had been seriously injured.
