CHAMPAGNE and berry scents, lavender and oatmeal baths, massages, painted nails, fragrant shampoos, cuts, blowdrys — it sounds like the domain of any high-quality hair and beauty premises but at Mitchell Waygood's salon the experience is for the dogs.
Mr Waygood opened Shear Elegance Pet Styling, the first pet-grooming salon in Blacktown, just two weeks ago.
Basic trims and breed-standard cuts are offered, as are more exotic cuts and colouring that give the dog "that extra bit of character".
"I'm very spot-on with my consultations," Mr Waygood said.
Mr Waygood has spent seven years as a pet groomer and specialises in poodles. He owns a standard poodle named Sidney and a miniature named Buddy — bichon frise (a fluffy terrier breed, sometimes called bichons) and any dog with a fluffy coat.
The strangest requests he has had range from being asked to groom a horse to being asked to clip someone's guinea pig.
"Some people like to have mohawks or mullets on their dogs because it makes them look a bit tougher for their breed," he said.
Mr Waygood has recently retrained with well-known European groomer Sasha Riess to be able to offer more exotic cuts.
"That's what most people like — something different so they stand out with their dogs. But I treat every dog here like they're my own," he said.
