The Midnight Basketball comp a massive success

MIDNIGHT Basketball Mount Druitt celebrated its inaugural year when term two of the program wrapped up at Kevin Betts Stadium last month.

Participants started the night with a meal of chicken and vegetables, donated by sponsors Steggles Chickens and Minchinbury Fruit Market.

Federal Chifley MP and program patron Ed Husic, Mount Druitt Police youth liaison officer Paul Sneesby, volunteers and committee members challenged participants to a game prior to the grand final between teams Green and Royal Blue.

Mr Husic congratulated team Red manager Isaako Isaako, who has attended all 16 nights the program has run.

"Midnight Basketball Mount Druitt is a way for the youth in the area to achieve together through the basketball and workshops.

"It helps the youth to develop their skills, keep active and get to know each other, in a safe and fun environment," Isaako said.

The grand final was a tightly contested, see-sawing affair won by team Green 22-20 in extra time.

A program spokesman said planning for 2013 is underway.
