New coach for association team

FORMER Springwood Basketball Association junior representative Daniel Fischer will be one of the new head coaches with the Penrith Basketball Association this year, taking over the Panthers Youth League Men's program.

Fischer, a former resident of the lower Blue Mountains, has been heavily involved with basketball since his junior representative career, particularly with the Northern Suburbs Basketball Association.

Fischer will have 10 new recruits in this year's Youth League program at Penrith, backed up by five senior players returning from 2012 and under 18 representative Nic Pozoglou (who also played both U18s and Youth League in 2012).

Star duo Ben Wagenfeller and Ben Kearins are among the returning players from 2012 but both will also be members of the Panthers Championship League Men's team, possibly limiting their appearances in the younger team.

NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) scholarship holder Laat Amat Gak should be one of the players to watch in 2013, following a frustrating injury-ridden 2012.

Brandon Gordon and Curtleigh Albertyn both made key contributions to Panthers in 2012 and their experience will be invaluable to this year's newcomers, Blake Macfarlane, Brett Walkom, Bryce Field, Conrad Decena, Josh Kitson, Kevin Paas, Samuel Bourke, Scott Garland, Tim Kirkwood and Brendan Reid.
