Meet the natives

SPEND time with the family among furry and feathered friends at Featherdale Wildlife Park as part of Blacktown City Council's 2013 Australia Day Celebrations.

Marketing manager Kellie-Anne Ames said it was great to get close to the animals.

"We have the largest private animal collection," she said.

"It's a real thrill to get up close to koalas at our free Koala Encounters, when people can pat the koalas and have their photos taken with them.

"There are not many things more Aussie than hanging out with the 'locals', hand-feed kangaroos, see the cute and cuddly animals, see our giant crocs which we feed at 10.15am daily. And Australia Day is [the] last day of our school holiday keeper talks."

You can also experience farmyard encounters with baby animals or reptiles at 11.15am and 2pm daily, and there are dingo walks at 1.15pm.

Interactive keeper presentations are held throughout the day.
