School in lockdown after flying projectile injures woman

Investigations are continuing after a woman was hit by a flying projectile

in a Herbersham car park on Thursday , which led to the local school being placed into lockdown during pick-up time

.Mount Druitt Police are speaking to six Pacific Islander youths in relation to the incident but no charges have been laid yet.

A woman, 28, was in the Hebersham shops car park on Welwyn Road at 3pm on Thursday (February 7) talking to a friend when she was hit above the eye by a steel nut.

The woman suffered minor injuries.

It's believed the projectile was flung by a homemade flying device.

Police arrested six youths at a unit in Andover Crescent, where it's believed the projectile was flung from.

''At this stage, we have been unable to establish who is responsible,'' duty manager Chief Inspector Bill Pearce told the Star.

''We'll be continuing our investigations and forensically examining a number of items to determine the DNA.''

Chief Inspector Pearce confirmed nearby Hebersham Public School was in lockdown for a short period during school pick-up time.
