Child restraints

Penrith Council will provide free child-restraint safety checks on February 23 from 9am to 1pm at the Penrith Civic Centre car park on High Street.

Roads and Maritime Services fitters will check restraints in cars are adjusted to maximise child safety.

They check for damaged straps, incorrect installation, loose car seats or restraints unsuited to a child's size and age.

Places are limited.

Harmony Day

Penrith Multicultural Interagency invites the community and the cultural groups they support to join the Harmony Day celebrations at Mamre House on March 14 from 10am to 2pm.

The day will build community awareness of cultural groups.

People tell their stories and gain an understanding of cultures.

Each nationality represented will display cultural items.

It is a free event and all are invited.

Sports awards

The Blacktown City Sports Awards will celebrate 30 years at its annual Blacktown City Sports Awards Gala Presentation on February 23 at Rooty Hill RSL.

Blacktown's sports stars will be rewarded for their efforts throughout 2012.

Winners will be for the following: Sportsperson of the Year, the Mayoral Shield, Under 12 Encouragement Award, Sports Administrator of the Year, Coach of the Year, Junior Sportsperson of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Team of the Year.

Guest speaker will be three-time Olympic cyclist Anna Meares.

The Sports Person of the Year winner gets $3000 and holds the title for the next year.

Tickets are $30, $25 for students aged 13-17, which include a three-course meal. Under-12s tickets are $20, which include a two-course children's meal.
