E-waste drop off

Clear your home of unwanted e-waste and chemicals. Gather old TVs, computers and other electronic goods for Penrith Council's electronic waste drop off day at Jamison Park, South Penrith, on March 9, 9am-3.30pm.

The council's free household chemical clean out is on March 16, 9am-3.30pm, Jamison Park.

Accepted items: solvents, household and pool cleaners, car batteries, paint, pesticides, poisons and even fire extinguishers.

Clean Up Australia

Blacktown Council encourages businesses, schools and residents to register sites for Clean Up Australia Day on March 3.

The council will arrange collection of the rubbish at local sites and host a thank you barbecue for volunteers at Nurragingy Reserve, 11.30am-1.30pm.

Bring gloves, a hat, sturdy shoes, sunglasses and sunscreen.

Talk on explorers

The explorers who first crossed the Blue Mountains 200 years ago will come to life in talks at Penrith Library as part of its annual history conference on March 9.

The Makings of a City: Crossing the Great Divide, will focus on the crossing by Blaxland, Lawson and Wentworth in 1813.

The one-day event will be held in the Bonynge Concert Hall of the Joan Sutherland Centre.

Events marking the crossing include an Aussie breakfast at Blaxland's Farm, the starting point 200 years ago and a historical festival at Mamre Homestead. Details: 4732 8040 or 4732 7687.
