Excitement has begun

THE NSW Rowing Championships have had the Regatta Centre abuzz with excitement.

With competitors ranging from world champions to school athletes the competition was the first phase of rowing fever to sweep Penrith.

Cora Zillich (pictured), the communications manager for Rowing Australia and Sydney International Rowing Regatta, said the events had already began to bring visitors to the area.

"It was great to see the venue come alive," she said.

"I think it's a fantastic opportunity to have world-class competitors coming to Australia and Penrith."

Ms Zillich said this was the first time the World Rowing Cup was being held in the southern hemisphere and the first time the Australian Open School Rowing Championships will be held alongside the international events.

Over the next few weeks more international visitors are expected to visit Penrith than at any time since the 2000 Olympics.

Ms Zillich hopes residents will attend the events to represent their area and encourage international visitors to return.
