GEMMA Matthews supports a push for a maternity ward at Mount Druitt after her traumatic experience at Blacktown Hospital.
"Staff levels are exhausted," she said. "They need more resources to relieve the pressure."
Mount Druitt MP Richard Amery, whose two children and three out of four grandchildren were born at Blacktown Hospital, also supports the idea.
His electorate is the highest in the state for population aged five to 14 and is second-highest in the state for the zero to five years population.
But Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospital general manager Andrew Newton quashed the idea.
"Blacktown Hospital is certainly coping with the number of deliveries each year."
