Vandalism costs high
Vandalism of halls, parks, roads and amenities, including graffiti removal, cost Penrith Council more than $807,000 last financial year.
A shade sail was recently set on fire at Werrington Creek playground and the soft fall surface damaged, costing $20,000 to fix.
"In some cases sporting events or other activities have had to be postponed or cancelled," mayor Mark Davies said.
He said the money spent on repairs could be put to better use.
"Keep phoning the hotline on 1800 022 182 because it's your efforts that are helping reinforce the message we won't tolerate graffiti in our public spaces," Cr Davies said.
Call the police assistance line on 131 444 or council on 4732 7777.
