Land rights changes
Mulgoa MP Tanya Davies is encouraging residents to have their say on proposed changes to the NSW Aboriginal Land Rights Act. The one-day consultations and workshops held with the NSW Aboriginal Land Council will go ahead in nine separate regions throughout this month and next month to discuss changes to the Act as a result of a statutory review. The forum nearest to the western Sydney area is on Friday, August 23, at Blacktown Leisure Centre.

■Staged development of Bungarribee Creek Reserve, Andrew Lloyd Drive, Doonside, continues and this project includes a concrete cycleway from Doonside Road to Holbeche Road and a bridge over Bungarribee Creek at the playing fields near Aliberti Drive.
■Road shoulder and causeway upgrades of Stony Creek Road, Shanes Park, between Palmyra Avenue and St Marys Road, continues.
■Reconstruction of Samarai Road, Whalan, between Luxford Road and Bulolo Drive is complete.
■Embellishment works at Shalvey Shopping Precinct, corner Luxford Road and Hopman Crescent, Shalvey, is complete. The project included path paving, seating, installing rubbish bins, landscaping and tree-planting.
Seniors Week grants
Mulgoa MP Tanya Davies is encouraging groups to apply for funding under the NSW Seniors Week grants program which provides funds to non-profit community groups, charities, public companies and local government bodies to create activities to celebrate NSW Seniors Week next March. The state government has allocated $200,000 for the program — $25,000 more than previously.

Free tax help
Free tax help is available through the St Marys Area Community Development Project at the St Marys Community Centre, enter via 29 Swanston Street, St Marys. Volunteers, trained by the Australian Taxation Office, are available to help low-income earners — up to $50,000 — prepare their tax returns.
