Londonderry MP Bart Bassett and Sport and Recreation Minister Graham Annesley presented a $24,686 cheque to Penrith Valley Regional Sports Centre in Cambridge Park on behalf of the state government. The money will convert a disused canteen area into a modern gymnasium that will enable the centre to expand its sports and activities program.
Call for nominations
Chifley federal MP Ed Husic has called for nominations for the 2013 Chifley Sports Awards. Nominations can be for individual or team achievements, including coaches, referees, umpires and administrators with at least five years' service or contribution to sport by schools, community groups or media organisations to a particular sporting event, facility or for continuous support over a minimum of two years.
"I have no doubt that there are future sporting stars living in our community who, with the necessary recognition and support, will make it to the world stage," Mr Husic said.
