NINE aspiring singers from Gemstar Academy will be in the spotlight next month, based on their successful video auditions for the Fast Track Singing Showcase in Sydney.
Twelve heats will be held at The Brewery in Darling Harbour from mid October, followed by quarter and semi-finals, then the grand final next March.
Singer Gemma Luxton with several hits to her name set up Gemstar Academy at her Minchinbury home this year.
She sees this inaugural competition as being as prestigious as X Factor and Australia's Got Talent.
"I have more students in the process of recording," Ms Luxton said.
"All of the kids are at a high standard. Some
of them have overcome adversities and health problems."
The prize pool includes money, music equipment, recording time and mentorships.
"I hope they do well and increase their confidence," Mrs Luxton said.
"The more the kids can perform, the better they'll get.
"The increased confidence will help them in other parts of life."
It's why Christine Collyer developed the Fast Track Singing Showcase competition.
"There were no platforms for singers, apart from television," she said.
The competition has age three categories: under-12, 12-16 and open (over-16).
Judges include finalists from The Voice and Young Talent time.
