ARIA Hall of Fame Inductees Glenn Shorrock and Brian Cadd have reunited for a new studio album and national tour.
Shorrock and Cadd who are well known from their stint in the band Axiom as well as many other famous Australian bands have released their latest album, The Story of Sharky and the Caddman, in October.
The album features a collection of Axiom songs, a selection of Shorrock and Cadd’s own hits and new material. The creation of the album was inspired from their upcoming national tour.
‘‘It felt so wonderful [to perform] and all the members of Axiom were back,’’ Cadd said.
‘‘The spirit of tour rehearsals inspired us to go back into studio to record a new album.’’
The album took five days to produce and was recorded live with the original Axiom band members including drummer Doug Lavery and Chris Stockley.
Cadd said the idea to record it live without adding synthetic beats made the album unique.
‘‘We played it like we were playing live on stage,’’ he said.
‘‘It was the ability to be free and fun.
‘‘When you are recording live you don’t have the time to work on a beat. You have to come up with the sound in that particular moment.’’
This will be the first time that members from Axiom have collaborated on an album in 44 years.
Cadd said the band had contemplated about having a reunion for many years but it was never the right time. He said with all band members back together it was time for the group to unite and play semi-acoustic music—a sound which the group has always wanted to play.
‘‘Over 44 years ago the acoustic sound wasn’t the sound people were interested in,’’ he said.
‘‘Today, a lot of people go to festivals to watch lots of bands play live.
‘‘We wanted to have that live music vibe.’’
Shorrock and Cadd will start their album tour in November.
As part of the tour, the two singer/songwriters will stop in at Rooty Hill RSL on Saturday, November 9 for a performance.
