Two Jacks lead awards tally

CHIFLEY MP Ed Husic has given his annual sports awards at a ceremony at the Blacktown International Sportspark on Friday. Five awards were presented out of 20 nominees.

Jack Hall and Jack Flaxman were dual winners of the Chifley Sports Champion of the Year award.

Jack Hall, of Mount Druitt Public School, is an all-round sportsman who represents NSW in gymnastics, taking out the NSW title and placing second in the national championships.

Jack Flaxman represented the NSW Junior Baseball League in the under-16s World Series Tour in Japan in August and also is an accomplished umpire.

"Getting involved in local sports is vital in bringing our community together and keeping young people active and healthy," Husic said.

Jerzy Kortynski was Chifley coach of the year. He has been involved in fencing for more than 50 years and is the founder and president of the Polish Australian Fencing Club.

Dawson Public School Active After-School Activities was Chifley sports group of the year. National and state titleholder in wrestling and judo Atilla Erzurumlu got the judges recommendation. Jayme Richardson Paris was won Husic's Leadership in Sports award.
