Christmas is a time for giving and St Marys Hotel patrons have done just that.
St Marys Hotel ran a Salvation Army Christmas Appeal to collect toys and presents to help disadvantaged families this Christmas.
Two shopping trolleys filled with donations were presented to the Salvation Army on Friday.
‘‘We are just overwhelmed by the support this year,’’ publican Greg Slawinski said.
‘‘Customers to the hotel have really taken to the drive this year with many popping in especially to place their presents under the tree.’’
A hotel regular spoke to grandsons Jake and Cameron Gregory about the appeal and was proud as punch when boys asked their mum if they could spend their pocket money on gifts for the appeal. “They returned to the hotel dressed as Santa’s helpers and two Santa bags full of toys for the drive,’’ Mr Slawinski said.
“With the whole family in tow, Santa’s two young helpers received a round of applause from all at the hotel, really highlighting the best this community has to offer as such a wonderful time of year.”
Salvation Army Major Tony De Tommaso was amazed by the community response for the appeal.
‘‘It will make the lives of many disadvantaged children that much more special this Christmas,’’ he said.
St Marys Hotel is continuing its 12 days of Christmas promotion, which sees one lucky winner take home a gift every day for 12 days.
The promotion ends on Friday.
“It’s the season for giving and we love giving back to the community here at the hotel,’’ Mr Slawinski said.
