Health care help for western Sydney's most vulnerable

Partners in Recovery (PIR), a new health care initiative led by WentWest, the Western Sydney Medicare Local is bringing new hope for the people suffering from mental illness.

Delivered over the next three years with a grant of $19.9 million, this initiative is set to provide life changing services to western Sydney's most vulnerable.

As part of the federal government's $2.2 billion mental health reform package, the funds will be directed to Medicare Local regions around Australia.

Key organisations in western Sydney have come together to provide an integrated approach.

"The PIR initiative is about giving these people a real chance," WentWest chief executive Walter Kmet said.

"By working across sectors and looking holistically at people's lives we can start to turn these statistics around. This new funding will go a long way towards addressing severe mental illness and its flow on effects."
