Ten years of swords, daggers and fun

SWORDPLAY is celebrating 10 years of swashbuckling swords and thrilling weapon action.

Principal weapons instructor Karin Kennedy said the whole team at Swordplay had enjoyed the past decade.

"We feel very excited to be a part of the Glendenning area," she said.

"Swordplay has been actively supporting fund-raisers, performing live for blockbuster film premieres, teaching students fight choreography for theatre productions and holding community workshops."

Ms Kennedy said they started providing weekly classes to the area after receiving a lot of interest at Blacktown's mediaeval festival.

"We continuously expand the sword skills of our combatants," she said.

"Training includes broadsword, shield, quarterstaff, rapier, dagger and unarmed.

"It's great for fitness and for those who are looking for a challenge."

The Brigadoon held at Bundanoon is just one of Swordplay's annual events.

"Swordplay introduced archers for the first time into the mass battle ground," Ms Kennedy said.

"This new routine proved to be a very exciting element for us and the audience."

Swordplay also participates at Winterfest and the Blacktown Show.

"Of course throughout the day you will find us having fun with soft swords and engaging with the public," Ms Kennedy said.
