BLACKTOWN will be rebranded as a regional city to change public perceptions.
Blacktown Council is working on a trigger project which will rebrand the area as "a city of excellence which is dynamic, diverse and progressive", similar to Penrith Council's Penrith Is Here campaign.
The project is called Promoting the City: Marketing, Branding and Community Engagement and stems from a strategy adopted by the council last June.
"We will define the positive qualities of Blacktown City and develop a marketing campaign to communicate its achievements, to strengthen networks and build new relationship," the strategy statement states.
"We will engage and build partnerships with our community and city stakeholders, to share the vision and pursue the interests of the Blacktown region."
A briefing session was held with councillors last week.
"Work will be presented to the council in 2014," a spokeswoman said.
Ward five Liberal councillor Jacqueline Donaldson said she was excited the rebranding.
"It's something I've been pushing for two years," Cr Donaldson said.
