Queen of hearts is back for kids' cause

Michele Ellery has a soft spot in her heart for kids.

It’s why she has set up a non profit organisation to hold Queen of Hearts family fun days for children’s causes.

It all started when the Werrington resident raised almost $7000 for Redkite at her inaugural fund-raiser in Ropes Crossing last year.

She has spent the last seven months organising aanother family fun day to be held at Ropes Crossing Village Green on May 3, 11am-7pm.

She hopes to raise at least $5000 for Bravehearts, which supports sexually assaulted children.

It’s estimated one in five Australian children will be sexually assaulted before they turn 18.

Penrith is one of the biggest hotspots in NSW for sex offenders, according to Mrs Ellery.

‘‘It’s a cause that has touched my family,’’ she said.

‘‘It’s something that you think will never affect you. But when it does, your world falls apart and your instincts go out the window.’’

Mrs Ellery hopes to break the silence associated with child sexual assault.

‘‘It needs to be spoken about and be discussed at the family dinner table,’’ she said.

‘‘I’m hoping I will be able to talk about how it has impacted on my family at the event. If one family learns from our story, that will make my day.’’

The family day will feature more than 60 market stalls, Harley Davidson trike rides, amusement rides, showbags, performers and more.

Boxing legend Jeff Fenech is a confirmed guest with other sports stars also expected to attend.
