EXTENDING opening hours of Blacktown Council's administration centre will improve its ability to serve the community, says general manager Kerry Robinson (pictured).
He believes increased opening times by 90 minutes to 8am to 5.30pm can be achieved for little cost.
He has also recommended safety and refurbishment works on the ground floor and to the committee rooms on level five, which Mr Robinson described as having "deteriorated to the point where they are an embarrassment".
Councillor Edmond Atalla welcomed extended hours but thinks it doesn't go far enough.
"If the council is serious about improving service, it should consider Saturday trading — say 9am to noon," he said.
'The council is open on Saturday mornings in February, May, August and December.
Mr Robinson doesn't see extending Saturday trading to other months of the year as cost effective.
The matter will be discussed again at next week's meeting.
