Coral McLean Award

Merleen Millson has been named the the 2014 Coral McLean Award winner for outstanding services to the Chifley community.

Founded by Chifley MP Ed Husic, the annual award breakfast recognises outstanding service by women in the federal electorate.

Mrs Millson was described as a strong moral mentor for her community and was active in the campaign to achieve equal pay for women while working for Australia Post.

She later joined the Women's Council Committee of Management, which was at the forefront of developing policies that aimed to improve the working life and conditions of women.

Since leaving the workforce Mrs Millson helped establish the Mt Druitt and Area Legal Centre, where she maintains an executive position.

Coral McLean was often referred to as the "Mother of Mt Druitt" for her unrelenting service to others prior to her death in 2011.

1934 tram a study

A 1934 Sydney tram has been transformed into a senior study at Nepean Christian School. With wifi, airconditioning and hardwood bench tops, it has three rooms and two private study areas.

"I congratulate Nepean Christian School students, parents and teachers for capturing and restoring a treasured piece of history for our current and future generations to enjoy," Mulgoa MP Tanya Davies said.

Principal Geoff Wheaton added: "Moving from faith to action is vitally important to the life of our school, as is a community spirit based on an authentically Christian outlook. The tram encapsulates all of these."
