Youth Week gets off to a sound start

YOU don't have to be young to appreciate Youth Week.

Blacktown mayor Len Robinson was in Dawson Mall, Mount Druitt, on Thursday to open the Burbs Festival, which launched 10 days of Youth Week activities in Blacktown.

A big crowd of all ages came to enjoy games, activities and live performances headlined by Young Men Society, who found fame on X-Factor in 2011.

Festivities continued over the weekend with a graffiti workshop at Emerton and a touch football tournament at Doonside.

There will be a gaming tournament at Mount Druitt Hub this afternoon from 4.30pm. A wood sculpture workshop will be held at Emerton Youth Recreation Centre tomorrow from 4pm.

Western Sydney Youth and Community Centre will raise community awareness about youth homelessness at its Sleep In Your Car event in Carsons Lane, St Marys, tomorrow night.

You can help young people who attend Mount Druitt PCYC by supporting theTime 4 Kids fund-raiser at Westfield Mount Druitt centre court on Thursday.

Almost $4000 has been raised towards the $15,000 goal.
