Tax idea leaked

Londonderry MP Bart Bassett has called on Labor candidate Prue Car to rule out imposing a congestion tax on Sydney motorists.

"A secret ALP document leaked to the NSW government reveals Labor is planning to slug motorists in all of western Sydney," Mr Bassett said.

The report NSW Labor Policy Forum: Jobs and the Economy Policy Commission proposes to "replace vehicle taxes with a Sydney congestion charge".

"Labor's plan would result in a massive increase in the cost of tolls for residents in our region," he said.

Job payment praised

Lindsay MP Fiona Scott has welcomed new incentives to boost workforce participation and get more young job seekers off welfare and into work.

The Job Commitment Bonus encourages young, long-term unemployed job seekers aged 18 to 30 with a $2500 incentive if they get a job and remain in continuous work for 12 months.

A further $4000 will be paid if they remain in continuous work and off income support for two years.

Mental health boost

Nepean Hospital's $46.8 million mental health centre opened last week.

It has almost doubled the number of available mental health beds, with 64 inpatient beds including 44 beds in the acute and high dependency units.

The federal and state governments have spent $141.8 million on the expansion of the hospital.
