A skateboarder who was found metres from his eastern suburbs home in a suspected hit-and-run last week has died.
Christopher Rhodes, 26, died in the intensive care unit of St Vincent's Hospital on Sunday after his life support was turned off.
His brother, Jack Rhodes, posted a tribute on Facebook. "As most of you know. This morning our family said our final goodbyes to our brother Christopher. Unfortunately we were unable to see his beautiful smile ever again," he wrote.
"As most of you know, it's been hard for all his friends and family. We love him so much and we know all of you did. He will live on in our hearts and spirits forever. Thank you all for your visits to Chris and your support. It is absolutely amazing how many people's lives he affected and the amount of love and best wishes".
Mr Rhodes, who was hit while riding home after work, was found unconscious on St Thomas Street, Bronte, by a motorist at 2am on April 30.
He was taken to St Vincent's Hospital with life-threatening head injuries but did not regain consciousness.
Police initially believed the Clovelly bartender may have come off his skateboard, which was found by the side of the road.
However, 30 minutes later, a 36-year-old man from Long Jetty was stopped on the Pacific Highway at Chatswood by police, who observed him driving erratically.
Prohibited drugs were allegedly found in his White Daihatsu. Police seized the car after suspecting it might have been involved in the Bronte incident.
The man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, possessing a prohibited drug, refusing or failing to submit a blood sample, and resisting an offcer in the execution of duty. He was granted conditional bail to appear at Hornsby Local Court on Wednesday, May 21.
Mr Rhodes is a former Randwick Boys' High School student who worked as a bartender at The Dolphin Hotel, in Surry Hills.
His Facebook page featured photographs of barbecue dinners cooked for friends and abseiling with his brother.
His older brother Aaron Carruthers posted a tribute to Mr Rhodes on Facebook. "Not sure what to say this has def been one of the worst weeks of my life. I lost my little brother Chris today they turned his life support off after a week.
"Mate your gone way to soon im really going to miss your goofy smile. Every memory i have of you makes me smile i can see you had that affect on a lot of people. Until we meet again mate im really going to miss u terribly love u brother."
