NEW Dimensions Health Club is determined to help make Mount Druitt one of the healthiest communities in Australia.
It runs 45-minute FitKids (primary school) and TeenFit (high school) programs on weekdays to encourage young people to adopt healthy habits.
The program is open to all school kids for free on Thursday and Fridays.
"Our goal is to be the healthiest community in Australia," club manager James Banks said.
"That may seem unrealistic but if we're always aiming towards it, we're on the right path."
The FitKids program is based on games for younger participants while TeenFit focuses on structured cardio, flexibility and strength-fitness activities.
The gym can take up to 24 kids a session.
"There's not a great deal in terms of fitness for kids outside competitive sport," Mr Banks said.
"But we have a lot of kids involved in sport who do come to keep up their fitness."
New Dimensions also runs free fitness workouts for the parents of St Marys Rugby League juniors who train at Boronia Park on Thursday and Friday nights.
"We need to influence an entire community," Mr Banks said.
"It's the only way to have a positive influence on all generations. Some people don't want to spend money on health and fitness but if we see it as worthwhile, we're happy to provide that service for free. It's time for us to act on our vision to make sure our community is healthy."
The gym is in talks to expand FitKids and TeenFit to other venues such as Mount Druitt PCYC.
