MEET Shalvey's newest pin-up couple.

Nathan Robinson and Wendy Crosland have stepped back in time to enter the Miss Pin Up Australia contest, which celebrates the vintage fashions and attitudes of the 1940s and '50s.

Mr Robinson (aka Harley Quinn) is the only Mr Pin Up contestant in NSW.

He is one of two contestants who will vie for the national title on August 2.

He was inspired by his sister, who represented Western Australia at Miss Pin Up last year.

"Coming from a heavy metal background and having worn a lot of black, I had no idea how I would adapt to the 1940s and '50s," Mr Robinson, 28, said.

"I didn't understand too much about it. But I found a new side of me.

"Wearing different styles of clothing has made me feel a lot better about myself.

"It's made me come out of my shell and made me realise life isn't as bad.

"It's an infectious lifestyle that takes you back to a time where life was simpler.

"It's been an amazing journey."

It's also the first time in Miss Pin Up for Ms Crosland (aka Wurple Violet).

She will vie for Miss Neo category at the state finals at Blacktown Workers on June 29.

Her new style has changed people's perceptions.

"It appeals to my body shape and has given me the right attention and compliments, instead of wolf whistles," Ms Crosland said.

"I've been told 1950s vintage fashion was meant for me. I would love to make the national final."

She and Mr Robinson met earlier this year and theirs is the first romance to blossom from the Miss Pin Up competition.

He recently moved from Canberra to Sydney to live with his new love and her three children.
