IT'S hard to imagine how a thriving community came to be on what was vacant space nine years ago.
Today, 3300 residents call Ropes Crossing home, a number expected to grow to 6000 by 2020.
Consisting of six villages, final construction in the suburb will be completed next year, 10 years after it began.
Lend Lease took the Star on an exclusive tour following the final land release, where all 70 lots in the extended Brookwood Ridge village were snapped up recently.
Construction will also soon start in the Talloway village; house and land packages are still available.
Ramon Oritz was one of the first residents to call Ropes Crossing home in mid-2006.
"It was scary when we first moved in, not knowing who our neighbours were and what sort of place it would become," he said.
"But as it grew, we realised we had nothing to be concerned about. We made it our home so it feels like home.
"Some people had concerns about being surrounded by housing commission areas but I don't see that as a problem.
"We're surrounded by good neighbours."
Mr Oritz and his wife recently downsized and bought a new land lot in the extended Brookwood Ridge.
They are renting in Ropes Crossing.
"We wanted to stay here and not miss out as we've come to love the place," Mr Oritz said.
Richard and Jean Ward live at the self-contained retirement village, Rochford Place.
"We came across it by accident and liked the arrangement and proximity," Mr Ward said.
In 2010, former Seven Hills residents Pete and Liz Wood moved in to establish Ropes Crossing Church, where up to 70 people attend the weekly Sunday service.
"We wanted to move to a new housing development that didn't have a church," Mr Wood said. "We liked how it was planned and the focus on making opportunities for the community."
Mrs Wood added: "I've made friends with people who I would have never crossed paths with before."
