IT WILL be up to the community whether Mount Druitt pool sinks or swims.
RMP and Associates and interstate company Tredwell Management will conduct a viability study to review the pool's long- term future.
A council spokeswoman said they were awarded the consultancy because they offered the best value for money after UWS declined to take part.
The council has allocated $40,000 for the study. The consultants will report back to the council in September, which will make a decision in November.
Community workshops will be held at Mount Druitt Hub tonight and Thursday night.
A third workshop for schools, businesses and community groups will be held this afternoon and interviews will be held with any interested groups.
An online survey is available until July 18 and a petition is on change.org.au.
Save Mount Druitt Pool spokeswoman Kerri Bradbury believes a third community workshop should have been held during the day, as well as hard copies of the survey for those who don't have access to a computer.
"It's very important everyone gets the opportunity to have their say," she said.
"Our hope is to highlight the need of the pool to the community, our kids and schools."
The pool closure is still taking its toll a year after the council made the decision.
"A woman with four kids recently told me she could only afford school swimming lessons for one child because the cost of the bus is $60 because they no longer walk to the pool," Mrs Bradbury said.
"I'm hopeful the little things wrong with the pool can be fixed and with some input from the community, it can work."
Questions have been raised as to why community workshops weren't publicised until now.
The council spokeswoman said a letterbox drop to wards 4 and 5 will continue this week, delayed by recent wet weather.
