Commander earns the Police Medal

FORMER Mount Druitt police commander Superintendent Wayne Cox was among eight officers formally recognised in this year's Queens Birthday honours. He receives the Australian Police Medal.

Superintendent Cox joined the police as a trainee in 1987 at the Goulburn academy.

During his time as Mount Druitt commander, Superintendent Cox helped reduce a range of criminal offences in the area. His innovative leadership and strategic organisational skills assisted strategies that help to divert young offenders from the criminal justice system.

He is involved with local indigenous groups and committees as well as being the region spokesman for Aboriginal concerns in the community, with the specific view of reducing Aboriginal representation in the criminal justice system. He left Mount Druitt in December to join the Parramatta command.
